Your Summer Essentials and our book recommendations July 17 2017

We hope you've got something lovely planned for your summer.  Perhaps you're going away somewhere exotic, or planning a staycation.  Whether you're hot footing to hotter climes or reading books in the garden, we've got some style ideas for you as well as some reading you might enjoy.

All of our items are in the sale too.

Our Straw Bag

The Essential Bag this year is Straw - effortless and easy to carry.  We've got a medium handheld one perfect for everyday or an oversized bag which is just made for the beach. Pack your books, suncream, towel and you're ready to go.

A Pair of Shorts

We love this 50s inspired pair from Bellerose - smart enough to wear with an oversized jacket and heels, or flats and a white linen shirt.

A White top with Pom Poms

Pom Poms and ruffles really made their mark this season - and we have just one of these Maison Scotch white tops left.

A Good Book

Here are some of our summer reads

The Vanishing Futurist - Charlotte Hobson

Page turning historical fiction set in the Russian Revolution and told from the point of view of an English Nanny.  A tale of community, humanity, relationships and an enigmatic figure who continues to mystify long after his disappearance.

Greatest Hits - Laura Barnett

A follow up to Laura's best selling 'The Versions of Us', this book explores the life of a fictional singer songwriter who has been a recluse for a decade.  We follow her story of through the songs from her forthcoming Greatest Hits Album.  The book has an accompanying album by Kathryn Williams, which is a really good addition to the story.

Inside Vogue - Alexandra Shulman

Vogue UK's Editor is set to retire and shares her diary with us.  Perfect fashion reading for the beach or the garden.

Paradise Lodge - Nina Stibbe

The third of her Lizzie Vogel trilogy (if you haven't read the first two, get those as well).  Lizzie works in Paradise Lodge, a home for the elderly and hers is a tale of scrapes, outrageous characters and ultimately, home.  Nina's wry take on life and her observant humour will delight anyone who grew up in the 70s and 80s.

Today will be Different - Maria Semple

Summer reading should be enjoyable and light - and this book fits the bill perfectly.  Get to know Eleanor and her family.  She's determined that she'll be a better person and that things will be different from now on.  Written over the course of one day, which turns out to be very different indeed, Eleanor is forced to come to terms with her past through a series of disastrous, but comedic events.

3 Outfits for Summer 2017 June 16 2017

It looks like the weather is going to hold this weekend, and if you're anything like us, you'll be looking at your diary and planning your summer, keeping your fingers crossed that it doesn't rain at the festival, isn't windy at the wedding, or blustery at the beach.

We've picked three looks from our Summer 2017 range that we think will cover all of your special occasions this season.

Get Wedding Ready

Wedding outfit Bellerose blue ruffle dress

This Bellerose silky dress in Navy is smart enough for a wedding.  During the day, we'd pair with killer heels and an oversized blazer or colourful scarf.  In the evening you can kick off your shoes as the dancing starts in earnest.  The ruffle on the sleeves is bang on trend and we've teamed it up with a beaded bag and colourful necklace. Check our page here for more wedding ideas.

Get Festival Ready

Get Festival Ready

Whether it's the Port Elliot Festival, one of the Eden Sessions or Boardmasters, festivals have become a fixture on the summer calendar.  We've put together a few of our favourite looks here but we love the hippy chic look of this Mes Desmoiselles smock top teamed with Maison Scotch Boyfriend jeans.  Let's hope you won't need your wellies this year and that you'll be padding around the site in these Maison Scotch leather sandals.  If you're wearing Plum at a festival this year, tag us and let us know!

Get Beach Ready

One of our favourite sunny day activities is a visit to the beach with a picnic and a good book.  We're fortunate in Cornwall that we have such a lot of beaches to choose from - but as long as the sun is shining and the sand is warm, we can put up with the sea being a bit chilly!  We started stocking London brand, Little White Lies this season and we love this black lacy beach cover up (it comes in white too) - Click here for more details.  A pop of colour from this Maison Scotch bikini, teamed with a bright beach bag and sandals, and you're ready to go!

Spring Shopping for a great cause March 09 2017

If you are one of our Twickenham customers, we think you'll want to hear about this event on Saturday at Cannizaro House, Wimbledon between 1-5pm supporting local charity 'The Good Grief Trust'.

Linda Magistris, the founder of the charity is working hard to help support the bereaved, whether they have lost a partner, a child, a parent, a sibling or a friend.   The Good Grief Trust is an umbrella organisation which will act as a signpost to bereavement services aiming to provide help and hope in one place.

On Saturday afternoon, they'll be relaxed shopping at the beautiful Hotel Du Vin, on Wimbledon Common, a fundraising event for our charity, with a selection of lovely stalls selling jewellery, beauty, fashion, accessories, a fabulous Raffle & a mini Fashion Show with the launch of a brand new clothing range, good as new designer clothes, childrens outfits & lots more!  The afternoon will be compared by Denise Waterman and along with the coffee and cake, they'll be a goody bag to take home.

Click through to the event page to find out more details and let Linda know that you're going.

We're pleased to be supporting 'The Good Grief Trust'.  You'll find a voucher in your goody bag which you can bring the shop in Twickenham and we will donate 10% of the sale purchase to the charity.

We will also donate 10% of any online sales between 11 March and 19 April.

All and Sundry is proving popular February 07 2017

We've had an amazing reaction ever since we've welcomed Sundry to Plum Boutique. It might be because it's seen on A-list celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Amy Schumer or Jennifer Garner.  Or it could be because the clothes are simply gorgeous.

Sundry clothing combines a love of the French Riveria along with a fairly healthy dose of Californian sunshine.  Expect to find soft cotton dresses with quirky hemlines, fine cashmere mixes and oversized slouchy sweaters emblazoned with stars.

In fact, they've been so popular we haven't got that many left!  So, don't delay if you've got your eye on one!

We love the pockets on this top

Sundry Grey Dress

Perfect paired with box white trainers.
Sundry Grey cashmere mix star jumper sweater

Only good days from Sundry

AW16 Knitwear November 11 2016

The clocks have gone back, there's even been snow in places; it really is Winter isn't it. To help keep you warm and stylish, we've take 20% off all new season knitwear online AND in store.  We also thought we'd take a moment to celebrate the humble cardigan!

Cardigans have come a long way from the ones our Grannies and Aunties used to knit for us.  We've picked out some of our favourites here.

The 'me time' cardigan

The Welsh have a word for it. 'Cwtch'.  A bit like 'hygge', it doesn't have a direct translation but means something like a cuddle or a hug.  Cardigans like these will hug you all the way through the Netflix Box Set that you've been promising yourself.

RAbens Saloner blue cardigan

The 'walk the dog' cardigan

Its a dry bright Winters day and the dog is looking at your longingly with his head cocked to one side.  Grab your thick, 70s inspired cardi and you're good to go.  This one is made from super soft Alpaca wool.

Maison Scotch Alpaca Cardigan

The party cardigan

Who said cardis had to be boring and practical?   More glam, less Gran; these two will take you out while keeping the chill off.  Perfect over that sleeveless LBD and easier to carry than a jacket.

Maison Scotch Lurex cardigan green

Bellerose silver cardigan

Fun at Truro Trend October 07 2016

We had the best time on Wednesday night at Truro Trend.

Well done to all who organised the event, from Enjoy Truro to Truro Cathedral, the armies of hairdressers, make up artists, models, all the other shops, the press and of course the 350 people who came along made the evening a fantastic success.

Here are our videos for you to enjoy.

New skincare range launched in Plum Truro March 24 2016

We were in celebratory mood last night at Plum in Truro as we launched the Inlight skincare range in store.

There was fizz from our new neighbours, Art of Wine; delicious canapes from Mid Town Deli; complimentary treatment from the girls at No3 Lash and Brow, making sure we were on fleek in the brow department and plenty of opportunity to sample the gorgeous skincare range from Inlight.

Inlight makes all of their cosmetics on The Lizard Peninsula and we're convinced that the fresh salty sea air and their sheer enthusiasm gives the products a little extra 'je ne sais quoi'. 100% organic and dreamy to use, you can read more about them here on the Secret Truro blog site.

Megan and Amy who also are Truro based bloggers were there and we're looking forward to reading their reviews on the evening - keep an eye out for these on our social media sites.

At the moment, Inlight products are available in the Truro store, but we're hoping to bring them to Twickenham as soon as we can.

However, if you're looking for a perfect travel size or a great gift, then you can buy them online here

Try Me (pictured) is £20.00
Pamper Me is £21.00
Indulge Me is £23.00

Wrap up and Explore Cornwall! January 12 2016

New Year is the perfect time to blow away a few cobwebs, wrap up and get out and about. There's a phrase 'there's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.' so we're giving you 30% off Ilse Jacobsen & Maison Scotch winter coats, Ilse Jacobsen Rain Boots AND we're popping in a free umbrella too!

Our Truro store is lucky enough to be in one of the most picturesque counties in the UK.  You may have fond memories of beach holidays and cream teas here, but Cornwall is proving itself to be a year round destination.  In the winter months, the beaches are perfect for long walks and breathing in the salty sea air. The hotels and cafe's are popular with locals and visitors enjoying steaming mugs of hot chocolate by roaring fires, or warming glasses of red wine with friends.

One of our favourite go-to websites, launched last year and chock full of things to do is We Are Cornwall. If you live in Cornwall, we bet you'll find a few new places, and if you're a visitor here, you'll love this fantastic site.  As well as places to visit, they often have competitions, such as this one below (who doesn't love a meal at Rick Steins?)

Whether you want a gentle stroll on a beach, a ramble through a wood or a challenging hike over the moors, Cornwall has something for everyone.

You might even choose to do a guided walk with a professional like Paul Simmons who runs WalkItCornwall.  Paul can guide you around the famous coastal paths or even let you into the secrets of the Poldark landscape (We can't promise that Aiden Turner will be there though - sorry about that).  Paul is also an accomplished musician and, who knows, after a day of walking with him, you might catch him at a venue tinkling the ivories.

No walk is complete without a spot of refreshment and relaxation.  Here are our top three places:

Sam's Cornwall is one of the county's favourite diners.  You're bound to come across one on your travels sooner or later.  Whether you are in Fowey, on the beach in Polkerris, right here in the City of Truro (and in the summer months, at Crinnis Bay).  Fabulous seafood, tasty burgers and plenty of local drinks are just what's needed when you've been out exploring!

The Waymaker is the perfect spot after a day on the Helford.  This Brasserie has no less than 5 delicious cream teas to choose from!  No wonder they recently won a Gold Trophy at the Cornwall Tourism Award.  Well done guys - we'll be down in a jiffy for a feast (after a long days' walking, naturally!)

The Hotel, Watergate Bay is the perfect place to watch the sun go down over the North Coast.  If you're there on a sunny afternoon, we recommend the sofa's over looking the sea, you can almost pretend that summer is just around the corner.

Happy Exploring!
